Il ruolo di Campylobacter spp quale agente di enterite in Sicilia Occidentale. Considerazioni su 35 casi

2004

Introduction: Campylobacter spp is the main cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in the developed countries, resulting mainly from the contamination of poultry and animal products. Pathogenesis remains unclear. Various clinical features ranging from watery diarrhoea in apyrexia to dysentery in hyperpyrexia may be the result of differences between strains in the expression of different pathogenetic factors. There are many difficulties in isolating the bacteria in question. Methods: We processed 540 faecal specimens of children with gastroenteritis. We detected enteropathogen bacteria including Campylobacter spp as well as Rotavirus, Adenovirus and protozoans. For the isolation of Campylobacter…

Pre-operative interventional radiology: could it have a role before complex laparoscopic surgery?

2021

Bleedings occurring during a surgical intervention can be caused by haemostatic defects, but they are generally due to ineffective local haemostasis. Current coagulation systems may not be sufficient to achieve a good haemostasis, causing, at the same time, tissue dama-ge. Furthermore, the availability of such devices does not eliminate difficulties linked to the isolation of vessels, a crucial step of surgical procedures that require the removal of an organ or part of it, in case of inflammation or neoplasm. This difficulty is even more evident, and weighs more on operative times, when the surgeon engages with video-assisted surgery, where anatomical structures are difficult to detect and …

THE SAXOPHONIST'S HERNIA: A RARE CASEREPORT OF ANTERIOR PRIMARY PERINEAL HERNIA IN A YOUNG MALE PATIENT.

2017

Perineal hernia is the protrusion of an intra-abdominal structure into the perineal area, that could be primitive or secondary to trauma or abdominoperineal resection. Main treatment could be transabdominal, transperineal or combined. Here is a rare case of anterior perineal hernia in a young saxophone male patient, treated with a mininvasive perineal approach. A 25-year-old Caucasian male patient referred 1-year history of perineal pain. The pain was more severe when he played his saxophone. Local exam was negative but a dynamic perineal ultrasonography revealed a small anterior perineal hernia. The defect was repaired with a polypropylene plug and the patient was discharged the day after.…
