Phenotypic APC resistance as a marker of hypercoagulability in primitive cerebral lymphoma

2005

Thrombosis is the most frequent complication and the second cause of death in patients with malignant disease. Primary central nervous system non-Hodgkin's lymphoma represents a rare pathology. Resistance to APC is usually linked to a factor V (FV) gene mutation changing an Arg 506 to a Gln in the APC cleavage site.In our study, we aimed at investigating the presence of activated protein C resistance (APC-r) and other markers of hypercoagulability in 25 selected patients with a diagnosis of primitive cerebral lymphoma who had suffered from an ischemic episode of TIA and/or stroke.25 selected patients with a diagnosis of primitive cerebral lymphoma and 50 healthy subjects acted as control gr…

Impact of sex, age, and risk factors for venous thromboembolism on the initial presentation of first isolated symptomatic acute deep vein thrombosis

2019

Abstract Background and aims Sex-specific differences exist for the initial presentation of acute venous thromboembolism (VTE): men are more likely to present with proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower limbs (versus pulmonary embolism [PE] or isolated distal DVT [IDDVT]) than women. We studied in detail the influence of sex, age, and VTE risk factors on the initial presentation of IDDVT versus proximal DVT. Methods A total of 24,911 patients with a first episode of objectively diagnosed acute symptomatic lower-limb DVT (without symptomatic PE) were enrolled in RIETE (years 2000–2017) and included in the present analysis. Results A total of 4266 (17.1%) patients had IDDVT. No tren…

Thromboelastographic profiles as a tool for thrombotic risk in digestive tract cancer

2007

Background: Quantification of the magnitude of thrombotic risk associated with malignancy and with anti-cancer therapy is indispensable to use anticoagulant drugs which selectively interfere with haemostatic mechanisms protecting patients from venous thromboembolism (VTE) and probably from tumor progression. However, none of activation coagulation markers has any predictive value for the occurrence of the thrombotic events in one individual patient. Current clotting methods can’t reveal the overall dynamic clot formation; in contrast thromboelastographic methods specifically assess overall coagulation kinetics and its strength in whole blood. Aim: Objective of study was to evaluate if the a…
