CHANGE IN VOLUME AND MORPHOLOGY IN CULTURES OF OLEISPIRA ANTARCTICA AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE AND SUBSTRATES USED

Bacterial population under nutritional and physic stress react in order to adequate cell metabolism and physiology to stressful conditions. One of the most frequently observed behaviours in the stress-starvation response of gram-negative bacteria is the size reduction and cell morphology conversion from rod to resistant shape-form. In such framework, we report here on morphology (cell volume and cell shape) variations in psychrophilic strain Oleispira antarctica RB 8T under different growth temperature and different hydrocarbons mixtures sources. Six different hydrocarbons mixtures (car commercial diesel, commercial crude oil engine; 2 different bilge waters, military jet fuel and crude oil…

The Multi-frequency Robotic facility REM: first results

The REM Observatory, recently installed and commissioned at la Silla Observatory Chile, is the first moderate aperture robotic telescope able to cover simultaneously the visible-NIR (0.45-2.3 microns) wavelength range. Due to its very fast pointing and its full robotization REM is conceived for fast transients observation. The high throughput Infrared Camera (REMIR) and the Visible imaging spectrograph (ROSS), simultaneously fed by a dichroic, allow to collect high S/N data in an unprecedented large spectral range on a telescope of this size. The REMobservatory is an example of a versatile and agile facility necessary complement to large telescopes in fields in which rapid response and/or t…

Acceptance of noninvasive computed tomography coronary angiography: for a patient-friendly medicine.

PURPOSE: This study was done to evaluate the psychological state and anxiety of patients undergoing computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA), and assess their acceptance and satisfaction compared to invasive conventional coronary angiography (CCA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 442 consecutive patients (282 male; mean age 57.7 ± 9.5 years) who underwent CTCA for suspected or known coronary artery disease were evaluated with the Endler Multimodality Anxiety Scales (EMAS) before and after the scan, and a questionnaire administered after the scan. Among the 442 patients, 181 had a history of CCA. Two radiologists assessed the image quality of CTCA. RESULTS: Anxiety was more intense …
