In this paper, we have used the exceptional circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic as a window for investigating the ambivalent, stereotypical and often-incongruent portrayals of exceptional vulnerability and resilient self-management that define the self-constructions available for older adults. Opposite Ends: widows' narratives of contemporary late life

The life course perspective frames this study of contemporary late life. Thematic narrative analysis is employed to analyse the stories of 16 Finn­ish widows aged 79–89 years (Moving in Old Age: Transitions in Housing and Care research project) in order to explore the experiences related to growing old. The results indicate two kinds of narratives: nostalgic rem­iniscences about a happy past are typical of the retiring to solitude story, characterised by experiences of life nearing its end and of letting go; and those inclined towards the keeping up narrative are still seeking new ex­periences and playing active roles in everyday life. Abstract Purpose This article explores the experience of residing in age-related housing. The focus is on the negotiations around the multiple meanings assigned to place of residency among older people — in a situation where the official policy objectives of growing old in one's own home are not achieved. Tämän työn tarkoituksena on tarkastella tytärten narratiiveja hoivasta. Tutkimus perustuu Omaishoito, palkkatyö ja identiteetit -tutkimushankkeessa kerättyihin kerronnallisiin haastatteluihin, joista on valittu neljäntoista äitiään päivittäin hoivaavan tyttären kertomukset. Työn tarkoituksena on tarkastella sitä, millaisten tarinatyyppien kautta kokemus hoivasta tulkkiutuu äitiään hoivaavilla tyttärillä ja toisaalta millainen merkitys konstruoidulla tarinatyypillä on tulkinnan kautta elämän jäsennyksissä. Hyvinvointipolitiikassa puhutaan yhä enemmän ikääntyneen oikeudesta jäädä asumaan nykyiseen kotiinsa ja saada sinne tarvitsemansa palvelut. Tämä artikkeli tarkastelee narratiivisen analyysin keinoin, miten huolenpidon kokemus jäsentyy äidistään huolehtivien tytärten hoivakertomuksissa yhä vahvemmin kodissa annettavaan epäviralliseen hoivaan tukeutuvassa yhteiskunnassa. Kertomisen tavat nojautuvat neljästä narratiivisesta perusrakenteesta kolmeen: romanssiin, tragediaan ja ironiaan.
