Copper(II) and nickel(II) chelates with dihydrogen Trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetate(2−) ion (H2CDTA2−). Synthesis, XRD structure and properties of [Cu(H2CDTA)]·H2O and [Ni(H2CDTA)(H2O)·4H2O
Abstract Stoichiometric reactions of metal hydroxycarbonates with the acid trans -1,2-cyclohexanediaminotetraacetic acid (H 4 CDTA) in water under reduced pressure yielded [Cu(H 2 CDTA)]·H 2 O ( I ) and [Ni(H 2 CDTA) (H 2 O)]·4H 2 O ( II ). Both compounds were characterized by TG-DTA analysis, spectral properties (IR, reflectance and RSE) and X-ray diffraction. In I the copper(II) atom exhibits a distorted square-base coordination (type 4+1) by chelation of one H 2 CDTA 2− ligand through two N and two O (carboxylate) at the square base and one O (carboxylic) at the apex of the coordination polyhedron; a second carboxymethyl group of H 2 CDTA 2− remains free. In II the H 2 CDTA 2− chelating …
Functional superoxide dismutase mimics. Structural characterization and magnetic exchange interactions of copper(II)-N-substituted sulfonamide dimer complexes.
Dinuclear copper(II) complexes with N-substituted sulfonamide ligands as superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimics have been investigated. The new N-(thiazol-2-yl)toluenesulfonamide (Htz-tol) and N-(thiazol-2-yl)naphthalenesulfonamide (Htz-naf) ligands have been prepared and structurally characterized. The complexes derived from these ligands, [Cu(2)(tz-tol)(4)] (1) and [Cu(2)(tz-naf)(4)] (2), have been synthesized, and their crystal structure, magnetic properties, and EPR spectra were studied in detail. In both compounds the metal centers are bridged by four nonlinear triatomic NCN groups. The coordination geometry of the coppers in the dinuclear entity of 1 and 2 is distorted square planar with t…
Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of two acetazolamide (5-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide) complexes: bis(5-acetamidato- 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide-O)bis( 1,2-ethanediamine)copper(II) and bis(5-acetamidato-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide-N)bis(1,3- propanediamine)copper(II); an unusually weak ambidentate anionic ligand
Abstract The diverse coordination chemistry exhibited by acetazolamide (H2acm), a potent inhibitor of the carbonic anhydrase metalloenzyme, is highlighted in two new copper(II) complexes of this ligand: [Cu(Hacm)2(en)2] (I) and [Cu(Hacm)2(tn)2] (II). The synthesis, crystal structure and spectroscopic properties of both compounds are reported in this paper. The structures of both compounds consist of discrete units of [Cu(Hacm)2(en)2] (I) and [Cu(Hacm)2(tn)2] (II), respectively, interacting through van der Waals contacts and hydrogen bonds only. Hacm, however, binds differently in each compound. In both cases, the Cu(II) ions, lying on the symmetry centers, show an elongated octahedral geome…
Two copper complexes from two novel naphthalene-sulfonyl-triazole ligands: different nuclearity and different DNA binding and cleavage capabilities.
[EN] Two novel naphthalene-sulfonyl-triazole ligands, 5-amino-N1-(naphthalen-3-ylsulfony1)-1,2,4-triazole (anstrz) and 3,5-diamino-N1-(naphthalen-3-ylsulfony1)-1,2,4-triazole (danstrz), purposely designed to interact with DNA, have been prepared for the first time and then fully characterized by H-1, C-13 NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The crystal structures of two copper complexes of these derivatives, i.e. [Cu(anstrz)(4)(NO3)(2)]center dot 4CH(3)OH (1), mononuclear, and [Cu(danstrz)(mu-OAc)(2)](2)center dot 2(danstrz) (OAc = acetato) (2), dinuclear, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In both cases the ligand coordinates in a monod…
Syntheses, crystal structures, and oxidative DNA cleavage of some Cu(II) complexes of 5-amino-3-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazole
Three new monomeric Cu(II) complexes of 5-amino-3-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazole (Hapt), [Cu(Hapt)(H(2)O)(2)(SO(4))] (1), [Cu(Hapt)(2)(H(2)O)(NO(3))](NO(3)) (2), and [Cu(Hapt)(2)(NCS-N)](NCS).H(2)O (3), have been prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. One distorted [CuN(2)O(2)+O(')] square-pyramidal (1), one distorted [CuN(3)O+N(')+O(')] octahedral (2), and one distorted [CuN(4)+N(')] intermediate between square-pyramidal and trigonal-bipyramidal (3) coordination configuration were found and are suggested to be due to the chelating nature of the ligand, which interacts with Cu(II) through the N4(triazole) and N(pyridine) atoms. Spectral properties of these chelates are…

The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic P21/n space group with a = 14.255(4), b = 7.126(2), c = 12.444(3) A, β = 113.12(3)° and Z = 2. The structure was refined to R = 0.065 (Rw = 0.065). The complex consists of monomeric units which interact through hydrogen bonds and van der Waals contacts. The Ni(II) ion is coordinated with the deprotonated sulfonamido nitrogen of the macm− ligand in axial sites and the ammonia molecules in equatorial positions. IR, electronic spectra and 1H NMR results are also reported.
Two Novel Ternary Dicopper(II) μ-Guanazole Complexes with Aromatic Amines Strongly Activated by Quantum Dots for DNA Cleavage
Two novel (μ-guanazole)-bridged binuclear copper(II) complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), [Cu2(μ-N2,N4-Hdatrz)(phen)2(H2O)(NO3)4] (1) and [Cu2(μ-N1,N2-datrz)2(μ-OH2)(bipy)2](ClO4)2 (2) (Hdatrz = 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole = guanazole), have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, and susceptibility measurements. Compounds 1 and 2 differ in the aromatic amine, which acts as a coligand, and in the Cu···Cu'-bridging system. Compound 1, which contains two mono-bridged copper ions, represents the first example of a discrete Cu-(NCN-trz)-Cu' complex. Compound 2, with two triply bridged copper ions, is one of the few compounds featuring a…

Abstract The synthesis and X-ray crystallographic characterization of three monomeric transition-metal coordination compounds with the ligand methazolamide {[N(4-methyl-2- sulphamoyl-Δ21,3,4-thiodiazolin-5-ylidene)],acetamide} (abbreviated as Hmacm) are described, via [M(macm)2(py)2(OH2)2] [M Co(1), Ni(2) and Cu(3)]. In all the compounds the metal ion, lying on the centre of symmetry, is surrounded by two sulphonamidato nitrogen atoms and two pyridine nitrogen atoms in equatorial sites and two oxygen water molecules in axial positions. The coordination geometry of the metal is an almost regular octahedron around the cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions. In contrast, the copper(II) ion has a sig…
Novel Hexanuclear Copper(II) Complex Built from a Simple Tetrachelating Triazole Ligand: Synthesis, Structure, and Magnetism
A new easy symmetric 3,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazole ligand (H3diV) by reaction with an excess of copper(II) salt has afforded a novel hexanuclear compound (Cu/HdiV ratio of 6:2) through a bis(trans-cis-cis-trans) binding mode, exhibiting two types of Cu(II) centers and two clearly distinguishable antiferromagnetic J1 (-234 cm(-1)) and J2 (-35 cm(-1)) coupling constants.
One-dimensional metal-organic framework with unprecedented heptanuclear copper units.
The reaction of copper(II) sulfate, copper(II) chloride, 3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazole, and 3-acetylamino-5-amino-1,2,4-triazole in water yields green, plate-shaped crystals of [[{Cu3(mu3-OH(1/2))L(H2O)2Cl}2{mu-Cu(H2O)2Cl2}].12H2O]n (1), where L is a new triazole-derived macrocyclic ligand. The structure of 1 consists of heptanuclear (H)OCuII(3)-CuII-CuII(3)O(H) entities linked in pairs through symmetric mu3-O...H...O-mu3 hydrogen bonds to form a double-stranded one-dimensional network. A significant overall antiferromagnetic behavior has been observed for 1.
Dimetallic complexes derived from a novel dinucleating chelating symmetric triazole ligand; crystal structure, magnetic properties and ESR study of bis[μ-3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolato-O ′,N 1,N 2,O ″]bis[(nitrato)(aqua)copper(II)] ‡
Reaction of 3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazole (Hdaat) with copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) salts yields dinuclear co-ordination compounds, which were spectroscopically characterized. The crystal and molecular structure of one of the compounds, bis[µ-3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolato-O′,N 1,N 2,O″]bis[(nitrato)(aqua)copper(II)] 1, was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 consists of dinuclear units with an inversion center at the midpoint of the Cu–Cu vector. The most remarkable feature of this structure is that the daat ligand forms a six-membered chelate ring [Cu–N3–C3–N1–C2–O1; Cua–N4–C4–N5–C5–O2], in contrast with the five-membered chelate rings always found in…
Complex formation equilibria between the acetazolamide ((5-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole)-2-sulphonamide), a potent inhibitor of carbonicanhydrase, and Zn(II),Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) in aqueous and ethanol-aqueous solutions
Abstract The stability constants for the equilibrium of complexation between acetazolamide and the divalent metal ions copper(II), nickel(II), zinc(II), and cobalt(II) have been determined by potentiometry both in water and in water-ethanol 50 vol. % solutions in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaNO 3 at 25°C. This mixed solvent has been used in order to obtain higher concentrations of acetazolamide in solution. For copper(II) and nickel(II), the binuclear species [Cu 2 (Acm) 2 ] and [Ni 2 (Acm) 3 ] 2− are detected in both solvents together with hydroxo species. The values of the stability constants are always higher in the mixed solvent than in water. For cobalt(II) and zinc(II), while in aqueous solution …

Thermal studies of sulphonamide derivative complexes
Abstract A thermal study of a new series of acetazolamidate complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) using the TG, DTG and DTA techniques in flowing air, static air and N 2 atmospheres is described. From the TG-DTG and DTA curves, different thermal behaviours can be observed. Although in all the complexes the processes of dehydration, deammination and pyrolysis can be clearly observed, in some cases they appear as several well-separated steps and, in others, as continuous stages which take place simultaneously. The differences observed between the pyrolytic decomposition in flowing air and in nitrogen are described. In flowing air, metal sulphate is formed from the thiadiazole ring, except fo…

The dinucleating ligand L (1,3-bis[bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]propan-2-ol) combined with metal ions efficiently cleaves DNA when M : L is 1 : 1 (M = Co(II) or Fe(III)) at pH 5.5–7.0, with free L being more active at acidic pH than when bound to Zn(II), Cu(II) or Ni(II) at neutral pH.
N-(5-Amino-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)pyridine-2-carboxamide
The title compound, C8H8N6O, was obtained by the reaction of 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole with ethyl 2-picolinate in a glass oven. The dihedral angles formed between the plane of the amide group and the pyridine and triazole rings are 11.8 (3) and 5.8 (3)°, respectively. In the crystal, an extensive system of classical N—H...N and N—H...O hydrogen bonds generate an infinite three-dimensional network.
Switchable Spin-Crossover Hofmann-Type 3D Coordination Polymers Based on Tri- and Tetratopic Ligands
[EN] Fe-II spin-crossover (SCO) coordination polymers of the Hofmann type have become an archetypal class of responsive materials. Almost invariably, the construction of their architectures has been based on the use of monotopic and linear ditopic pyridine like ligands. In the search for new Hofmann-type architectures with SCO properties, here we analyze the possibilities of bridging ligands with higher connectivity degree. More precisely, the synthesis and structure of {Fe-II(L-N3)[M-I(CN)(2)](2)}center dot(Guest) (Guest = nitro-benzene, benzonitrile, o-dichlorobenzene; M-I = Ag, Au) and {Fe-II(L-N4)[Ag-2(CN)(3)][Ag(CN)(2)]}center dot H2O are described, where L-N3 and L-N4 are the tritopic…
Synthesis and characterization of acetazolamide complexes of Ni(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), and Ag(I)
The preparation and characterization of K2Ni2(Acm)3·5H2O, Cd(Acm)·32 H2O, Hg(Acm)·12H2O, Ag2(Acm), and Ag2(Acm)(NH3) complexes are described. The spectral properties suggest that Acm interacts with the metal ions through the doubly deprotonated form as observed in the [Cu(Acm)(NH3)2(OH2)]2·2H2O complex, whose crystalline structure has been previously reported. The crystal field parameters of the Ni(II) complex indicate an octahedral environment for the metal ion in the solid and its aqueous, DMSO, and DMF solutions. UV spectra of all the Acm complexes until now synthesized are discussed.

The reaction of Haat [Haat = (3-acetylamino-1,2,4-triazole)] with aquated Cu(CF3SO3)2, Cu(NO3)2, and Cu(ClO4)2, respectively, in water results in the trinuclear complexes [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(CF3SO3)(H2O)2](CF3SO3) (1), [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(NO3)(H2O)2](NO3).(H2O)2 (2), and [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(ClO4)(H2O)2](ClO4) (3). The synthesis, X-ray structure, and magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the three title complexes are described. The cation of the three complexes is trinuclear with a Cu3OH skeleton which has the N-N diazine grouping of a triazole ring as bridge between each pair of copper atoms. The Cu3OH units have an average Cu-O distance of 1.991(6) (1), 2.000(6) (2), and 2.007(6) (3) A, an average Cu-…
From six-coordinate to eight-coordinate iron(ii) complexes with pyridyltriazolo-pyridine frameworks
A new octacoordinated Fe(II) compound, [FeII(LN4)2](BPh4)2·3CH2Cl2, as an example of the scarce FeN8 systems, has been isolated with a tetradentate triazolopyridine-based ligand from a solution containing the related hexacoordinated [FeII(LN3)2]2+ complex, with LN3 = pyridyltriazolo-pyridyl-bromopyrimidine and LN4 = bis(pyridyltriazolo-pyridine).
Spectroscopic behavior of metal–drug complexes. Infrared spectra of Cu(II) dimer complexes with acetazolamide (H2acm) and an analogue sulfonamide (B-H2ats)
Abstract The infrared spectra of the drugs H2acm and B-H2ats, and their copper(II) dimer complexes with stoichiometries [Cu(acm)(NH3)2(OH2)]2·H2O and [Cu(B-ats)(NH3)2]2 are reported and discussed. The Raman spectra of H2acm and B-H2ats are also reported. An assignment of H2acm and B-H2ats modes in the complexes is proposed in comparison with the modes of the free ligands. The spectral modifications due to the deprotonation and coordination effects are analyzed. The ν(N–H) modes of the sulfonamido, carbonamido and Nring–H of the imine tautomer have been accurately assigned. Important information about the S–O and S–N vibrations has been obtained.
Nanoporosity, Inclusion Chemistry, and Spin Crossover in Orthogonally Interlocked Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Frameworks
[Fe(tvp)(2)(NCS)(2)] (1) (tvp=trans-(4,4-vinylenedipyridine)) consists of two independent perpendicular stacks of mutually interpenetrated two-dimensional grids. This uncommon supramolecular conformation defines square-sectional nanochannels (diagonal approximate to 2.2nm) in which inclusion molecules are located. The guest-loaded framework 1@guest displays complete thermal spin-crossover (SCO) behavior with the characteristic temperature T-1/2 dependent on the guest molecule, whereas the guest-free species 1 is paramagnetic whatever the temperature. For the benzene-guest derivatives, the characteristic SCO temperature T-1/2 decreases as the Hammet sigma(p) parameter increases. In general, …
