The contribution traces the story relating to the construction of the tower facade of the Mother Church of Salaparuta, destroyed by the earthquake of the Belice Valley in 1968 and of which there are, in addition to the historical iconography, also many stone blocks that once constituted the imposing structure. The research conducted evaluates any designers, the reference models identifiable in some Austrian area solutions, the design constraints determined by the seismic rush of the area, the similarities and differences with the architectures of the same type identified in the eastern area of Sicily and built after the earthquake of 1693.

In international, Italian, French and German public collections, but also among private collections, there are architectural drawings by the quadrature painter Tarquinio Ligustri da Viterbo, made after 1596 and depicting portals of his invention. This corpus is mostly unpublished and has remained anonymous for centuries. It consists of a consistent body of preparatory drawings kept at the Kunstbibliothek in Berlin, and a small number of engravings made from them, distributed in loose form but also bound in a rare miscellaneous volume published in the second half of the seventeenth century by Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi‘s famous Roman printing house Alla Pace. The contribution analyzes two drawings from a project by Giovanni Amico (1733) for the Benedictine library of the monastic complex of San Martino delle Scale, near Palermo, whose construction has undergone successive transformations. The models pursued by the architect from Trapani confirm his interests and the interference of the client, both aimed at the production from beyond the Alps at the time of the Habsburg domination of the island.

Belice 1968-2008:Barocco perduto, Barocco dimenticato

Gran parte del patrimonio architettonico d'età barocca di molte città della Valle del Belice è stato cancellato o drammaticamente mutilato dagli effetti del terremoto del 1968. A quaranta anni dal sisma, approfondire lo studio di architetture scomparse, radicalmente trasformate o dimenticate appare una sfida necessaria, per restituire identità e valore a un'intera civiltà perduta, per reinserire opere preziose nel lungo e affascinanate percorso della storia dell'architettura siciliana.

Simulation studies of electronic transport in a-Si:H thin film solar cells

The thin film solar cells in Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon (a-Si:H) are attractive for cheaper production and used in ultra low cost, high volume applications but have a relatively lower electronic performance. These limitations are mainly due to properties of the a-Si:H and relies on the production technique. In this study we investigate the physical mechanisms which are on the basis of the electronic transport and their relation with the technological processes. The transport-simulation computer program ATLAS (Silvaco) has been used to examine the role of the mid gap defect density in determining the performance of a-Si:H p-i-n homojunction solar cell.
