In the complex scene of valencian architecture of 19th century, Timoteo Calvo Ibarra should be considered as one of the most representative authors. In his designs and interventions, such as the Literary University, the construction of new Cathedral’s Altarpiece, they are apparent the peculiarities of the first Historicism, coincident with Isabelline period. There are so many reasons why the Peninsular War (1808-1814) is one of a kind chapter of our history. The deep politicization of the city of Valencia during this conflict explains the existence of cruel and violent episodes. These ones weren’t forgotten, but of course they were properly overcome through the years by other expressions of patriotism and heroism. So, the goal of this paper is to examine and think about the artistic expression of these violent events, their functions, evolution and, in conclusion, their lives. In the conquest of Valencia in 1238 and its subsequent Christianization we find the genesis of the convent city. Over the centuries the dominant presence of convents and monasteries determined various aspects of the city, urban development being one of them. However, the influence and power that these monasteries exercised diminished gradually with the reduction in the number of their members and foundations. The point of no return comes with the nineteenth century when the successive confiscations and the consolidation of the bourgeoisie mean its fading.
