Effects of Beclomethasone dipropionate and Formoterol in reducing oxidative stress induced by cigarette smoke extracts and IL-17

2011

Rationale: Oxidative stress is involved in airway inflammatory diseases. Inhaled-corticosteroids reduce airway inflammation and the combination with long-acting β2 agonists enhances this effect. Objective: to investigate whether Cigarette smoke extracts (CSE) and Interleukin-17A (IL-17A) activate airway epithelial cells to release markers of oxidative/nitrosative stress and to investigate the effect of beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) and formoterol. Methods: Human bronchial epithelial cells (16HBE) were stimulated with different concentrations of CSE (from 0 to 10%) to evaluate the expression of IL-17 receptor (IL-17R). 16HBE were also stimulated with CSE (2.5%) with and withouth rhIL-17A…

Effect of traffic proximity of lung function in asthmatic children

2014

Introduction Respiratory conditions are strongly dependent on air pollution. Urban areas are typically characterized by risky environmental conditions, especially due to traffic congestion. Indeed, there may be important variations in environmental quality even within urban areas. Objectives To analyze the effect of traffic proximity on asthma and to explore the relationship between level of traffic proximity and lung function in both asthmatic children and non-asthmatic children. Methods A case-control study on children visited for suspected respiratory diseases at IBIM from September 2011 to May 2014 was performed. All the children have been geocoded according to their residence address. …

Role of non cholinergic system components in Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps

2010

The Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) enzyme and its product Acetylcholine (ACh) are classically components of the cholinergic system, however recent data clearly demonstrated their potential role in the bronchial airway inflammation. The aim of this study was to identify whether ChAT, Muscarinic receptor M3 and ACh are involved in the nasal airway inflammation of subjects with Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CR) and Nasal polyps (common in many patients with CR). We collected nasal specimens from normal subjects, from allergic patients with CR (ACR) and from ACR and nasal polyps. Fragments from surgical biopsies were extracted for both total mRNA and total proteins to analyse the levels of ChAT and…
