Infertility, or the inability to conceive a child, is a medical condition recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) that causes serious health problems for affected women, as well as significant epidemiological and sociological repercussions for society. It is estimated that this condition affects 15% of couples worldwide, with its incidence increasing, affecting 10% of couples who want to conceive their first child and between 10-25% of those who want to have a second child. The European Parliament's report on the future demographic of Europe (2007/2156 (INI)) highlights the need to consider infertility as a sensitive and important issue for consideration in articles 25 and 26. The objective of the MIR research group is to promote and initiate new lines of research that allow us to advance in the knowledge of reproductive medicine, improving assisted reproduction treatments, reducing their adverse effects and establishing new techniques for diagnosis and preservation of fertility.
