Le ampie competenze in materia ecclesiastica del re di Sicilia venivano esercitate in ambito giurisdizionale attraverso il Tribunale della Regia Monarchia. I fondamenti di tali prerogative regie furono posti in discussione in modo talvolta ampiamente conflittuale dalla Santa Sede, mentre queste stesse vennero indicate dai “regalisti” come veri e propri attributi della sovranità. Nel XVII secolo, nel quale il Tribunale aveva già una struttura consolidata, gran parte della sua attività fu dedicata a controversie di non elevato rilievo, intraprese solitamente per sfuggire alla ben più rigida giurisdizione ecclesiastica, sfruttando l’ampia possibilità di avocazione. Relativamente alla città di Palermo, il saggio mostra alcune tipologie di controversie in cui il Tribunale venne chiamato in causa. The extensive ecclesiastical powers of the King of Sicily were exercised in the judicial sphere through the Court of the Royal Monarchy. The foundations of these prerogatives were questioned in a sometimes widely conflicted way by the Holy See, while these were indicated by the "royalists" as real attributes of sovereignty. In the seventeenth century, in which the Court already had an established structure, much of its activity was dedicated to disputes of not high importance, usually undertaken to escape the much stricter ecclesiastical jurisdiction, exploiting the wide possibility of calling. With regard to the city of Palermo, the essay shows some types of disputes in which the Court was called into question.
