In this pape1 l offer an interprelalion of lhose paragraphs of Wittgens1ein's Tracta tus in· which Willgenstein talks about negative facts. In my· opinion we cannoí conclude that Wittgens1ein held thai negative facis .have actual existence, as Russell, for example, did. 8}' means of a kind of journey lhrough sèveral possible interprela\ions. l arrive to !he conclusion that negative facis are nolhing but non-ef!ective possibili!ies; they are in the logical space, in the field ol possible worlds, but they have no actual exislence, they are no.t inhabitants of the world. Finally, it is suggested thai, insofar as pictures are facts, !he only negative facts were, for Wittgenstein, lhe negative piclures and not what those pictures depict.
