The article attempts to explain the purpose of investing characters of tales, fables and animations, with the name “silly”. The author analyzes such examples of works that show various aspects of the phenomenon of foolishness: naivety, infantility, lack of elementary knowledge, performing an activity against logic and laws of nature (e.g., drowning of fish). An important element of the argument is also presentation of the significance and influence of the display of stupidity on receivers. This last aspect is shown on the basis of comparing messages carried by these fables and fairy tales which expose the phenomenon of foolishness with the purport of cartoons in which the theme is present as well.
