Nowa komedia, nowy realizm : "Czerwony bukiet" Tadeusza Rittnera

The paper presents a detailed analysis of a little known play by Tadeusz Rittner entitled Red Bouquet, staged in 1905 first in Lviv, subsequently in Kraków, and published only in 1978. Zbigniew Raszewski, an expert in Rittner’s works, presented a negative review of the play. In this paper, the author attempts to correct Raszewski’s arbitrary statements by referring to the concept of comedy and theatrical dialogue developed by Rittner and published in the magazines of his time. Rittner’s views were in line with the order of the evolution of drama in the early 20th century which consisted in the liberation of aesthetic categories from genre-related limitations. Red Bouquet can be considered the starting point for the new comedy a characteristic feature of which is the simultaneity of extreme emotions and the coexistence of various characters “on equal footing”: heroic and simply silly ones, yet representing one unifying community.
