En la novela La piel del cielo (2001), Elena Poniatowska forja la imagen singular de la memoria del desarrollo de la astronomia y de la astrofisica en nuestro pais, enlazada a otra memoria: la del conocimiento ancestral y empirico presente en vastas regiones de Mexico y que, via la oralidad y el juego, son transmitidos por una madre cuyo unico anhelo es que sus hijos aprendan. Asimismo, son recreados algunos de los diversos sentidos que adquiere el viaje, entre ellos: el del transito hacia el conocimiento cientifico y el del encuentro con uno mismo; porque ?que otro sentido puede tener ir al encuentro de una estrella que no sea el de ir al encuentro de nosotros mismos? In her novel La piel del cielo (2001), Elena Poniatowska forges a unique image of the memory of the development of astronomy and of astrophysics in our country, linked to another memory: that of the ancestral and empirical knowledge present in vast regions of Mexico and which, via orality and play, are transmitted by a mother whose only desire is for her children to learn. The novel recreates some of the different meanings that the voyage acquires, among them that of the transit towards the scientific knowledge and that of the encounter with oneself; after all, what other meaning can come from the search for a star if not the encounter with our own selves?
