To show that this is not a superficial claim, this article follows the way in which the reception of La Fontaine's work, particularly his illustration, played a fundamental role in the origins of modern comics. A quick analysis of Jean-Paul Krassinsky's album, The Twilight of Idiots, shows the persistence of these features in contemporary comics.
