The Holy Bible is the basic source of the wedding homily. Apart from the Bible, the ordinances of the sacrament of marriage are an important element of the content of the homily. The words of the marriage vow are a sacramental formula and a constitutive sign of the sacrament of marriage. They express their marital agreement and establish a marriage covenant. Hence, the content analysis of marital promises in the context of preaching a wedding homily plays an important role, which is still too little used in preaching. Preachers pay attention to the relationship between the sacrament of marriage and the Eucharist, which, as the sacrifice and feast of Christ, is a school of love and sacrifice in conjugal life and is therefore the essence of conjugal spirituality. Marriage oath is part of this spirituality and its particular words become a programme for the realization and renewal of the sacramental grace in a married life.
