The main goal of U. Karatkevič’s work has always been an attempt to revive and strengthen the sense of national identity of Belarusians. There was no writer in Belarusian literature who devoted all his work to the history of his own nation. In his works, the writer described the ups and downs of Belarusians, showed their attempts to achieve independence, shaped in his reader the basis of Belarusian national identity. In the 1950s and 1960s in the USSR, it was not easy to promote the true history of Belarus, beauty Belarusian language and Belarusian national identity. Karatkevič was often stigmatized and punished for his actions in this field. The article presents the influence of the writer’s creativity on the formation of the Belarusian national identity.
