Setting out to discuss the complex problem area of social counselling extended to families and opportunities which the Polish legal system offers to victims of violence within the scope of social aid, i determine at the beginning the theoretical range of my considerations. Consequently, i start with taking a look at the phenomenon of violence, paying special attention to one of its types –violence in the home. Then, i discuss the possibilities of work with victims of home violence, which are guaranteed by the Polish legal system and make a presentation of institutions of social aid which have been established to provide help and support to victims of violence, as well as to deal with prevention of this social phenomenon. also indicate the possibilities of cooperation with other institutions, which social aid can rely on, ones whose task is to protect the child and its family from violence.
