Announced in 2005, the encyclical of Pope Francis: Laudato Si: On Care for our Common Home, is a dramatic appeal to change the attitude towards the environment and to take action to save it. The analysis was carried out from the viewpoint of ecolinguistics, and the criterion of the so-called environmental adequacy. At the center of attention was the problem of anthropocentrism, which for ecolinguists is the main “contamination ” of the language and the source of improper relations between man and nature. The encyclical is, however, a text functioning within Christianity, which is particularly blamed for the preservation of anthropocentric vision of the world within the culture. The analysis shows that the encyclical does not deconstruct the anthropocentric image of the world, rooted in the Bibie, and still proclaims theprimacy of man over the world of naturę. It presents the environment as a resource for human use, including the usage of elements of economic discourse. However, the image of the role of man in the world and the model of his «domination» are subject to redefinitions. Pope constructs the metaphor of a responsible manager and gardener, who cares for the Garden of Eden, and directly expresses a number of postulates, promoting a more consistent and rational relationship between man and the world of nature.
