description

J. M. G. Le Clézio, the author of the novel Wandering Star fitting into the sociopolitical context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, presents the story of two girls Esther and Nejma. Their life reflect the history of two nations: the Jews and the Palestinians. Sentenced to be exiled as a consequence of the war, they embark on a spiritual journey in time and space, in order to return to Paradise Lost. By becoming the witness of the enemy’s ruthlessness, unimaginable cruelty, they discover the importance of religion. It’s the way that they figure out who they are. The religion gives them a sense of security, hope and perseverance, by which, in the end, they return to the Promised Land. So in order to reflect the reality, the context of the War and the Exodus, Le Clézio plays with evocative images, the narrative structure and the spatio-temporal framework.
