MAN IN THE MIRROR OF TRANSFORMATIONS IN CULTURE – A CHALLENGE TO THE ALARMED

Edward Nycz

subject

description

The author undertakes to discuss the question of transformations in European culture currently underway, which find their reflection in Polish society. The description of the situation is multidimensional. Science is not able to effectively describe the changes going on without making reference to the culture which used to connect elements of cognition, art, and religion in the past. People, particularly young ones, adhere to cognitive reductionism, in this way impoverishing the world of values and exposing valuation of the phenomena going on around them. Departure from the experienced realism may direct the young towards (utopian) idealism and cause them to found their activity on constructs belonging to consumerism and multi-culturalism. Doctrinal and instrumental taking advantage of culture imposes the form on anti-culture – seducing, deluding and disappointing many contemporary humans.
