The essay start exposing the main thesis of Tessitore’s book Benedetto Croce. La ricerca dello storicismo: Tessitore argues that Croce could not set a coherent historical thinking up, because of the tension between his formative Humboldtian kantism and the late yet critical adhesion to the Hegelian philosophy. Then, it tries to explain why Croce’s absolute historism and Tessitore’s critical historism – have similar motives but become very different as to their results.
