We present here some new elements related to the french mathematician Hermann Laurent. We first comment on an unpublished letter of Alfred Barriol to Robert de Montessus de Ballore written during the year 1908. The topic of the letter is the "cours libre" given by Hermann Laurent at the Sorbonne . We then turn to the grand-son of Hermann Laurent, industrialist Charles Schmid-Laurent. Finally, we found in the collection Andr\'e Bujeaud (archives of Vendée, France), portraits of Hermann Laurent, his wife and their daughter.
