description

The amendment to the Polish university law provides, among other things, for the abrogation of the official list of study courses with compulsory study programs. In return, universities will be given more flexibility, with one of the priorities for the forthcoming years residing in a better adjustment of their programs to the changing needs on the labor market. In view of this and due to the fact that students’ interest in classical Germanic studies has drastically decreased in the past few years and will probably continue decreasing in the years to come, foreign Germanistics will have to break new ground. In this context, there will probably be a necessity for a stronger cooperation with related fields of study or with application-oriented subjects. The present paper will therefore focus on LSP-methodology in German as a foreign language and especially focus on the importance of teaching the so-called “supporting vocabulary” (Pieńkos 1999: pp. 40) as a key element of LSP discourse.
