Displacement(s) and Identity in the Libyan Story "Al-Malika" by Nağwa Binšatwan

In a context of political repression and social oppression like Libya used to be before the Arab Spring, the literary representation of displacement assumes a central role and sometimes becomes a metaphor of an existential condition. Starting from the analysis of some short stories taken from Al-malika by Nağwa Benshatwan – one of the most interesting voices of Libya’s Contemporary literary landscape – this paper will focus on the concept of displacement interpreted not only as a physical and/or figurative migration but also as a tool for representing personal and collective identity Dans le climat de répression politique et d’oppression sociale qui caractérise la Libye d’avant la “révolution arabe”, la représentation littéraire du déplacement assume un rôle crucial et devient parfois métaphore d’une condition existentielle. À partir de l’analyse des nouvelles figurant dans Al-Malika de Nağwa Binšatwān – une des voix les plus intéressantes dans le panorama littéraire de la Libye contemporaine – cette contribution se focalisera sur l’idée de « déplacement », non seulement comme émigration physique et figurative mais aussi comme moyen de représentation d’une identité à la fois individuelle et collective.
