description

The Author proposes, while emphasizing the difficulty of reinterpreting an old excavation, a functional analysis of a Himerean house which has been excavated in 1972. Noting that at Himera there is not a typical house plan, he begins with the description of structures and materials from House VI 5 and proposes a sociological and economical interpretation of their domestic use. House VI 5 is one of the largest houses in the city in the fifth century B.C. consisting of three parts (one for storage, a public place, and a private one) and attests that Himereans knew and used new domestic patterns from metropolitan Greece, in particular in Athens, and were actively involved in spreading cultural Greek models.
