In recent years, processes have taken place within the space of cities of Latin America, resulting in the fact that their spatial structure is changing in an essential way. The author tries to describe the essence and directions of the transformations under way and to specify the most characteristic elements which have appeared within the space of a few chosen cities. Research conducted in various countries of the region shows a continuing presence of some traditional features of the spatial structure of cities. However, simultaneously, some new features which are becoming the predominant element in the reality of the cities are gradually growing stronger and stronger. Observations of processes undergoing in various cities of the region allow concluding that the new model of the spatial structure of the Latin American city is developing.
