¿Por qué se van? Mujeres de pueblo y desarraigo en la ruralidad valenciana. 'Why do they migrate?

The relative absence of young women is a threat to the social sustainability of rural municipalities. The social sciences have attributed this female migration to causes such as labor market or education among other factors. The feminization of rural migration is a consequence of social, regional and gender inequalities. Along those causal variables also must be considered the symbolic structures of domination, as urban supremacy. This paper refers to the reasons of rural female uprooting, having observed the social representations of rurality in the Valencian Country, using a qualitative approach. Village women today are mobile people: urban, modern, and they express an increasing resistance to the rural subordination.
