Tulevaisuudessa maailman mobiiliverkoissa kulkevan datan määrä kasvaa yhä kiihtyvällä tahdilla ja kirjallisuudessa on siksi pohdittu mobiiliverkkojen seuraavaa suurta kehitysaskelta. Tässä tutkielmassa käydään läpi viidennen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkoissa hyödynnettäviä teknologioita, sekä mahdollisia tapoja rakentaa 5g-verkko. Etenkin suurta verkon kapasiteettia vaativilla alueilla verkon rakenne tulee muuttumaan ja tällöin mobiiliverkot eivät ole enää yhtä makrosolupainotteisia kuin ennen. In the future the amount of data in the world's mobile networks will increase and thus in literature there has been discussion about the next great step in the development of mobile networks. This thesis goes through technologies usable in the fifth generation cellular networks and the ways to build a 5g-network. Especially in the areas requiring a large network capacity the structure of the network will change and then the mobile networks won't be as macrocell oriented as they were before.
