description

The Polish Independence League established at the end of 1944 became the political representation of Piłsudski’s adherents in exile. The head office of the PIL was in London, where Piłsudski’s adherents published a bulletin ‘Listy z Londynu’ (Letters from London), and then a magazine ‘Za Wolność i Niepodległość’ (For Freedom and Independence) published irregularly, in which they promoted their political concepts. The establishment of a regional union of states (federation) in Central and Eastem Europę after World War II occupied a prominent place in the political thought of the Marshall’s heirs. They were in favour of political, military and economic integration of the countries in this part of the Old Continent. To this end, they postulated establishing contacts with emigrants from Central and Eastem Europę. They considered the cooperation of nations threatened by Russia (the Soviet Union) as a geopolitical necessity and a precept of history. The proposed union of states, being a pillar of peace in post-war Europę, was also supposed to be one of the basie foundations of Polish security. The goal of Piłsudski’s adherents was not only a free Poland, but also liberation from the domination of the Kremlin in the whole of Central and Eastem Europę, disintegration and annihilation of the Soviet Union, and the defeat of communism as an idea. In the geopolitical plans of Piłsudski’s adherents, Ukrainę occupied a key place. However, the potential members of the federation were divided by mutual reluctance and resentment from the past and recent past, as well as serious conflicts and territorial disputes. Emigrants from Central and Eastem Europę sought to create sovereign states, not a regional union. Conseąuently, nothing came out of Piłsudski ’s adherents’ bold and far-reaching plans, as they were their only supporters.
