One of the most significant influences upon the process of creation of male/female spirituality was exerted by role models characteristic for the culture of Counter-Reformation. Among these models, the ones that occupied the most influential position were Miles Christianus and Heroina Christiana shaped in response to domestic and foreign dangers to which the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was exposed. The article focuses predominantly upon the discussion of social pedagogy build around the propaganda of spiritual struggle. In this respect, a significant role was played by soldiers prayer-bookspublished predominantly in 17th cent., mainly Żołnierskie nabożeństwo [Soldier’s religious service] by Piotr Skarga SJ (1606), as well as Heroina Chrześcijańska [Christian Heroine] an exceedingly popular prayer-book for women published in 18th cent. The 16th - 18th cent. models of the spiritual and religious life, in 19th century, Consolidated the society around the image of man characterised in their attitude to life by obedience not only to the teaching of the Church strengthened by its authority in matters of faith and morality but also by obedience to one’s parents, who shed blood for independence of the motherland as well the respect for national heroes, spiritual leaders, and prophets, the latter being themselves the authors of countless edifying texts.
