In ancient times, the sick and the disabled were denied rights due to man (often they were eliminated from the population, what are the Sparta and ancient Rome). Gradually, as the wider development of societies (including the idea of the humanities), also people with disabilities were given rights belonging to every human being. Today, they - like all people - have the rights guaranteed by law and socially. However, the contemporary reality too often exposes their sole declarativeness, which makes the issue of the protection of human rights (here the person with a disability) is one of the most important tasks of social services acting on behalf of people with disabilities. This implies challenges for social work, which is the subject of run by the author. The author of the article shows both the foundation of social work in protecting the rights of people with disabilities, as well as trying to resolve issues related to their actual respect.
