description

The article is a contribution to the biography of the Catholic clergyman, parish priest in the parish of Łubniany located in Upper Silesia – the Rev. Franciszek Pogrzeba. He was one of the fourteen priests who signed the so-called “Appeal to Priests”, in compliance with which they broke off their cooperation with the Catholic German Center Party (Deutsche Zentrumspartei) and supported the Deputies of the “Polish Circle” in the German Parliament. After World War 1, the Rev. Pogrzeba actively engaged for incorporation of Upper Silesia into Poland. Following the division of the region, threatened by German nationalists, he had to flee to Poland, where he spent the rest of his life working as a parish priest in Przyszowice situated in the part of Upper Silesia belonging to Poland.
