[EN] The concept of competency has become more and more important in our educational system, partly due because of external tests assessing educational quality, as PISA, highlight the need not only to introduce methodological changes in the teaching of mathematics in the Secondary education, but also to design new tools in order to develop mathematical competence, understood as the ability of our students to mathematize real life situations. In this thesis we want to study the role that modelling tasks can play in the development of mathematical competency, and, particularly, in problem solving. For this aim, we have designed a series of modelling tasks based on three different perspectives and we have analysed the methodological changes needed to implement this activity into small working groups in a ninth grade classroom (14-15 years). With the research tools designed for this thesis, we will analyse both the resolution process of the modelling tasks performed by students, having as a reference the modelling cycle and the final production, the model, under the categories of procedures, languages and concepts. We will also consider the different roles played by the teacher when interacting with students. For this aim we will analyse two key moments: the debate between students of the same working group during the development of the modelling activity in the classroom (intragroup debate), and the discussion between students from different groups during the public presentation of their works to their fellows (intergroup debate). The statistical analysis of responses to a test of competencies will give us evidences about the positive influence of modelling tasks in the development of the necessary competencies to solve real problems.
