The object of reflexion here is a sociotechnical usefulness of proverbs and proverbial expressions incorporated to Zofia Urbanowska’s novel Ksiê¿niczka [Princess] and their relevance in her writing style. Urbanowska used diversed strategies when including adagias in the hipertext, skillfully adjusting them to the work’s composition, decontextualising or paraphrasing clichéd idioms, and arranging lexical and synonymic shifts essential for introducing semantic novelties. Accordingly, the multitude of linguistic devices used by Urbanowska to introduce proverbs to the parent text is equivalent to their functional diversification. Adagias, utilised in this very manner, have become the center of literary character’s profile, have dramatised the dialagoue, commented on the events, rendered irresistible arguments in the discussion, and, finally, amplified artistic and realistic representation of the storyworld.
