Family is an important environment to each individual man - a surrounding naturally creating conditions for development, care and rearing of a child, as well as introducing it into the world of defined norms and values. From the very beginning, that is sińce the very moment of the child’s coming to the world itself, the family has to carry out a number of tasks, among which the following, among others, can be distinguished: childcare, rearing, securing materiał maintenance and gaining experience in starting the first interpersonal relations. Each family realize their functions passing through successive phases which include: the birth of the child, its growing up and getting independent. There are, however, situations in the life of a family, which can disrupt the family system, like, for example, the birth of a child with a disability. The problem of a family with a disabled child can be analysed within different areas. One of the aspects which is undertaken in the present paper, is realization of the caring-rearing function with reference to a disabled child living in a fuli family, concentrating on specific difficulties which the parents experience as a result of possessing a child with a disability.
