The article outlines the outstanding relevance of Dalibor Vesely an architect and teacher who has recently disappeared. He was born and brought up in Czechoslovakia but, since the early Sixties, he has lived in London where he was considered an authority for his insightful approach to architecture. The article is focused on his conception of architecture as a complex cultural construction which nowadays faces the crisis of its metaphorical status. Vesely taught for about 20 years together with Joseph Rykwert a renown postgraduate program at the University of Essex and later at Cambridge. He also taught in studios at the AA. His culture was strongly influenced by phenomenology and hermeneutics in a manner rather different from other circles.
