description

The main goal of this paper is to present the circumstances of an attempt on the life of the King Alexander I Karađorđevic, who was killed by terrorists from Macedonian organization VMRO in 1934, during his official visit in France. The author indicated that many researchers were focused mainly on the following questions: who were the organizers and co-organizers of the assassination attempt? What was the goal of terrorists: assassination of the King of Yugoslavia or assassination of Louis Barthou, minister of foreign affairs of France? On the other hand, the author of this paper presented a thesis that the attack in Marseille was unquestionably a terrorist act of combined forces of Croatian and Macedonian separatists, although inspired also by German, Italian and Hungarian authorities and, above all, intelligence services of these countries. After assassination of the King, activity of Ustasha movement died down only temporarily. The structures of Pavelić’s organization were developing again, taking propaganda and terrorist actions in cooperation with VMRO and Albanian separatists in Kosovo.
