El presente artículo trata sobre algunos aspectos del mecenazgo llevado a cabo por los Condes de Aranda en la ciudad de Épila (Zaragoza). Se abordan temas relacionados con la fundación del Monasterio de la Purísima Concepción y la participación del pintor Juan Ribalta (Madrid, ca. 1596 – Valencia, 1629) en la decoración del retablo mayor. Del mismo modo, también se aborda el estudio del importante conjunto de pinturas de temática franciscana que allí se conservan, el último gran encargo realizado por Juan Ribalta antes de su prematura muerte. This article discusses some aspects of patronage held by the Counts of Aranda in the city of Épila (Zaragoza). It also examines certain issues related to the foundation of the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception and the participation by the painter Juan Ribalta (Madrid, ca. 1596 – Valencia, 1629) in the decoration of the main altar. In the same way, the study also addresses the important set of Franciscan themed paintings that are preserved there, the last major commission from Juan Ribalta before his premature death.
