The purpose of my research is to demonstrate how and why Grotowski was involved with the politics and political system in Communist Poland – not only to what extent he was compromised but to what extent he compromised the authorities. I am especially concerned with determining the levels of risk, professional and personal, to which Grotowski was exposed, and what extent the Polish Secret Police and Communist Party were involved. Many people has been writing and a lot has been written on Grotowski’s theatre in general, but not about Grotowski’s theatre as an institution. The author has discovered some rare and precious materials. These are some interesting secret police files discovered in IPN. These facts and documents convey special knowledge: a revision of some stereotypes or even myths about Theatre of 13 Rows in Opole period.
