This chapter will focus on ethical aspects and decision-making conflicts in prenatal testing that arise in the case of conspicuous test results. In order to gain some insight into the women’s experiences when confronted with a conspicuous test result, we studied their answers to the open questions in the questionnaires of EDIG substudy A. After giving a short introduction to the open questions some of the responses will be presented. The focus will be on an aspect which plays a crucial role in the overall experience: the women’s attitude towards the fetus – and the way women talk about the fetus. The results of the EDIG study will then be discussed against the background of Barbara Katz Rothman’s concept of a “tentative pregnancy”. Afterwards, some implications for the ethics debate will be discussed.
