Issues concerning the baptism of the Polish state in 966 year has a wealthy literature. In this context, it is not surprising that the event of this magnitude takes pride of place in the pages of school textbooks. Textbooks are next to the teacher, despite huge progress in access to information seen in the last several years, the primary source of student, acąuired during school education, historical knowledge. Starting from this assumption, the author of the article decided to have a look at how the pages of the most popular contemporary textbooks for teaching history, presents the circumstances and conseąuences of the adoption of Christianity by Mieszko I in 966. The analysis work shows that in the minds of the young generation perpetuate one meaning this act in the struggle for the independence of the Polish state. Most authors stressed that the adoption of Christianity accomplished through the Czech Republic. In addition, books paid attention to culture-the importance of this event due to a significant part in the activities of the Church and the clergy.
