Czy można pogodzić wolność ludzi i zwierząt?

animalsindividual libertyfreedom of non-human beingsmodern culturedescription
The core idea of our modern culture is the right to individual liberty meaning that everyone should be able to pursue their interests and preferences and choose how they live. It legitimises the unconstrained activities of those who satisfy their needs and interests sometimes in contrary to the animals and the entire biosphere's wellbeing. Individuals' freedom and autonomy as inalienable elements of a liberal society often lead to an unrestricted consumption and indulgence and to the ruthless exploitation of non-human beings who are deprived of liberty and autonomy. In the text, I ask, among other questions: What is the moral status of animals according to contractualism? Can the freedom of human beings be reconciled with the respect for interests and freedom of non-human beings? Does liberation of animals and the respect for their freedom lead to the abandonment of the liberal ideals of autonomy and freedom?
