La present tesi estudia en primer lloc el concept teòric "teatre polític" des de la seua aparició amb Piscator passant per Brecht, Weiss i Boal, fins a les darreres consideracions ja en la Postmodernitat, amb Lehmann. Així mateix la investigació realitza un recorregut per la literatura dramàtica portuguesa des del segle XVIII fins a l'actualitat, per acabar centrant-se en Abel Neves. Aparareix en aquesta tesi també un catàleg actualitzat de tots els seus textos (teatre, narrativa, poesia, assaig i traduccions a altres llengües). En el capítol més pràctic hem configurat un mètode d'anàlisi el qual hem aplicat a una selecció de set de les seues obres per tal de determinar el grau de compromís polític que presenten. L'enfocament sota el que hem treballat resulta molt interessant des de la perspectiva dels estudis teatrals, tant a l'entorn del concepte de teatre polític, com en tot allò referit a l'estudi de la història contemporània de les arts escèniques, especialment del teatre portuguès més actual. This thesis examines first the theoretical concept "political theater" from its appearance with Piscator through Brecht, Weiss and Boal until the last considerations in Postmodernism, with Lehmann. Also this research does a survey thoughout the portuguese dramatic literature from the eighteenth century to the present, finally focusing on Abel Neves. It appears also an updated catalog of all texts (theater, fiction, poetry, essays and translations in other languages). In the chapter we set a more practical method of analysis which we have applied a selection of seven of his works to determine the degree of political commitment in them. The approach under which we worked is very interesting from the perspective of theater studies, both around the concept of political theater, as in everything related to the study of contemporary history of the performing arts, especially contemporary portuguese theater.
