The article is an attempt of presentation of Gregorian chant, which, despite the passage oftime and numerous cultural transitions, still remains prevailing and appropriateforthe contemporary liturgy, not only because of richness of musical content, but primarily due to a profound spiritual aspect.The overriding aim of the thesis is therefore to analyse the elementary aspects of the ancillary role of Gregorian chant in the renewed liturgy. This text considered in the context of community-making, meditative, ornamental and kerygmatic aspects of the ancillary role of chant. It also indicates the timelessness of the message of Gregorian chant, which is a vehicle for the Word of God, enables one to meditate on it and to pray, hence it will not get old. The discussed texts also prove that Gregorian chant subject matter is still being raised, and that it is significant for today's scholarly reflection, which in tum shows that there may be found an appropriate place for Gregorian chant in the present-day liturgy.
