The article discusses the phenomenon of new media discourse permeating the language of written assignments produced in official school situations. The analysis of pupils’ essays concentrates on the colloquialisms transferred from social media discourse into the lexical layer of school writing. The author has assumed that the analysis will enable identifying educational barriers experienced by the new generation of pupils. The language of the texts under analysis combines the styles of written assignments, informal speech and of socialmedia discourse.
