The red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier (Coleoptera, Curculionidae), is currently one of the most severe pests of Canary palms in urban areas of Mediterranean countries and date palms in cultivated areas of the Middle East. RPW aggregation pheromone can be implemented for both monitoring and mass trapping however risks of RPW 'spillover' onto palms is of great concern. As databases make Corpus Linguistics a common tool for most linguists, corpus annotation becomes an increasingly important process. Corpus users do not need only raw data, but also annotated data, submitted to tagging or parsing processes through annotation protocols. One problem with corpus annotation lies in its reliability, that is, in the probability that its results can be replicable by independent researchers. Interferon α interferes with immunological tolerance.

The ability of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to promote immunological tolerance represents an important obstacle in cancer immunotherapy. We have recently discovered that the clinically established immunotherapeutic agent interferon α (IFNα) inactivates the suppressive functions of human Tregs. Here, we outline the mechanisms whereby IFNα mediates this important function and discuss its therapeutic implications for cancer immunotherapy.

Το καλοκαίρι του 2013, προσδιορίστηκαν οι συγκεντρώσεις υδραργύρου στο έδαφος και τον αέρα του ενεργού ηφαιστείου της Νισύρου (Ελλάδα), το οποίο ανήκει στο ενεργό ηφαιστειακό τόξο του νοτίου Αιγαίου. 102 δείγματα εδάφους συλλέχθηκαν και 2119 αναλύθηκαν για υδράργυρο με τη χρήση ψυχρού ατμού ατομικής απορρόφησης αναλυτή, σύμφωνα με τη μέθοδο ΕΡΑ 7473. Ταυτόχρονα, στα ίδια σημεία πραγματοποιήθηκαν συγκεντρώσεις υδραργύρου στον αέρα, με φορητό φασματοφωτόμετρο (Lumex RA- 915M). Οι τιμές των εδαφικών συγκεντρώσεων υδραργύρου κυμαίνονται από 0.023 έως 13.7 mg/g. Το σύνθετο γεωδυναμικό καθεστώς της Ελλάδας πηγάζει από την πολύπλοκη γεωλογική της ιστορία, η οποία χαρακτηρίζεται από έντονη σεισμική δραστηριότητα και ενισχυμένη γεωθερμική βαθμίδα. Αυτή η δραστηριότητα σε συνδυασμό με το ενεργό ηφαιστειακό τόξο, ευνοεί την ύπαρξη πολλών εκπομπών αερίων, με αποτέλεσμα την κατηγοριοποίηση σε CO2-, N2- και CH4-αέρια, ανάλογα με το επικρατών είδος. Η παρούσα εργασία επικεντρώνεται στο μεθάνιο και τους ελαφρούς υδρογονάνθρακες (C2-C6) με σκοπό τον προσδιορισμό της προέλευσή τους.
