Music-related nostalgic experiences of young people living in migration
2012
Music is a powerful means for constructing identity – both formulating and remembering who one is (e.g., DeNora, 2000). A particular situation creating challenges for the sense of self is migration and living in a foreign environment. Therefore, this qualitative study focused on investigating music-related nostalgic experiences in young people living in migration. The aim of the study was to identify features characteristic to music-related nostalgia particularly in relation the experience of migration. Ten university students (aged between 24 – 40 years, 5 males, 5 females) took part in the study. The participants were all Iranian, currently living in migration (in Germany or Finland). Dat…

Development of Methods for Olive Oil Quality Evaluation
2012
In this work, a simple and quick method for olive oil classification according to its quality grades, based on direct infusion ESI–MS and LDA, was developed. Moreover, mixtures of EVOO and VOO, and binary mixtures of these two oils with olive oils of lower quality grade have been also evaluated using this methodology and MLR and PLS data treatment.
Breath testing as a method for detecting lung cancer
2014
Early diagnosis of lung cancer is important due to high mortality in late stages of the disease. An ideal approach for population screening could be the breath analysis, due to its non-invasiveness, simplicity and cheapness. Using sensitive methods of analysis like gas chromatography/mass spectrometry in exhaled air of cancer patients were discovered some volatile organic compounds - possible candidates for cancer markers. However, these compounds were not specific for cancer cells. At the same time, integrative approaches used to analyze the exhaled breath have demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity of this method for lung cancer diagnosis. Such integrative approaches include detect…

Prezentācijā sniegts EK 7. ietvara programmas projekta OpenAIRE raksturojums, mērķi un uzdevumi, iekļauta informācija par Eiropas Komisijas Open Access nostādnēm un pētniecības rezultātu deponēšanu institucionālajos repozitārijos atbilstoši šo nostādņu prasībām.
Application of MOOSY32 eNose to Assess the Effects of Some Post Harvest Treatments on the Quality of ‘Salustiana’ Orange Juice
2015
A new prototype of Electronic Nose instrument, Multisensory Odor Olfactory System MOOSY32, with a processing method based on a multivariate classification analysis was used to assess different postharvest and storage treatments effects to Salustiana oranges. The analysis method is based on the measurement of the volatile compounds produced under different environmental and operational conditions. The Electronic Nose system revealed that orange juice flavor changes even when juices are analyzed right after each treatment and fruits are stored under refrigerated conditions. The instrument was able to detect even small changes in the aromatic pattern of the juices, confirming that the packing …
An acute exposure to ozone impairs human olfactory functioning
2018
Ozone is a ubiquitous and irritant gas. We questioned whether an acute exposure to 0.2 ppm ozone impaired olfactory functioning.Healthy, normosmic subjects were exposed according to a parallel group design either to 0.2 ppm ozone (n = 15) or to sham (n = 13) in an exposure chamber for two hours. Possible irritating effects were assessed by questionnaire (range 0-5). The detection threshold of n-butanol was measured with the Sniffin' Sticks test before and after exposure. Olfactory thresholds were logarithmized and a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measurements was carried out to test the effects of exposure (ozone vs. sham) and time (before vs. after exposure). Additional…
Wegener's granulomatosis : description of a case with oral manifestation
2009
Wegener?s granulomatosis is a multisystemic granulomatous vasculitis that predominantly affects the airways and the kidneys, but may affect any organ. Otorhinolaryngological manifestations may be oral ulcers, gingival swelling or septal perforations that can cause saddle nose deformities, rhinitis, sinusitis and hearing loss. The oral ulcers usually occur when the disease is advanced. Renal involvement is characterized by focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis, and determines the evolution. The diagnosis is made by clinical symptoms and signs, the presence of c-ANCA and a positive biopsy. The anatomic pathology is characterized by vasculitis, granulomatous inflammation with multinuclear gia…
Adopcijas noslēpuma neizpaušanas ietekme uz bērna tiesiskajām interesēm.
2020
