Lineārās programmēšanas pieeja pseidolineāru optimizācijas uzdevumu risināšanai
2017
Criminalità organizzata, devianza minorile e sistema giudiziario a Palermo e Catania
2009
Do All Juveniles Belong to Cosa Nostra? Palermo and Catania are the two main cities of Sicily - Despite the fact that they share similar problems, such as underdevelopment, unemployment and social deprivation, the Juvenile Courts of the two cities apply different policies when dealing with juvenile deviants. When the same kind of crimes committed by juvenile defendants are considered, the Palermo court is found to be more lenient than its counterpart in Cata235 nia. Seeking an explanation for this discrepancy, the two authors discuss figures and use qualitative material to argue that it must be connected to the different relationship between organised crime and juvenile deviance in the two …
NMDA-induced acetylcholine release in mouse striatum: role of NO synthase isoforms
2002
Striatal cholinergic interneurons are stimulated by glutamatergic inputs from thalamus and cortex via NMDA receptors. The present microdialysis study was designed to characterize the role of nitric oxide (NO) in this process and to identify the NO synthase (NOS) isoform responsible for this effect. For this purpose, we studied the effects of NMDA and 3-morpholino sydnonimine (SIN-1) perfusions on the release of acetylcholine (ACh) in mouse striatum. In wild-type C57/Bl6 mice, perfusion of NMDA (100 µm) induced a two-fold stimulation of ACh release. This effect was attenuated in mice lacking endothelial NOS but was completely absent in mice lacking neuronal NOS. Local perfusion of SIN-1 (300…
Nitric Oxide Synthesis in Vascular Physiology and Pathophysiology
2015
Nitric oxide (NO) is produced by three NO synthase (NOS) isoforms: neuronal NOS (nNOS), inducible NOS (iNOS), and endothelial NOS (eNOS). Under physiological conditions, vascular NO is produced by eNOS and nNOS, with both playing atheroprotective roles. Under pathological conditions, iNOS can be induced and eNOS may become uncoupled. iNOS produces a large amount of NO, induces vascular dysfunction, and promotes atherogenesis. Uncoupled eNOS generates superoxide instead of NO and contributes significantly to endothelial dysfunction and atherogenesis. Major mechanisms of eNOS uncoupling include depletion of tetrahydrobiopterin, an essential co-factor for the eNOS enzyme, and deficiency of L-a…
Nitric oxide synthases: regulation and function
2011
Nitric oxide (NO), the smallest signalling molecule known, is produced by three isoforms of NO synthase (NOS; EC 1.14.13.39). They all utilize l-arginine and molecular oxygen as substrates and require the cofactors reduced nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH), flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), flavin mononucleotide (FMN), and (6R-)5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin (BH(4)). All NOS bind calmodulin and contain haem. Neuronal NOS (nNOS, NOS I) is constitutively expressed in central and peripheral neurons and some other cell types. Its functions include synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system (CNS), central regulation of blood pressure, smooth muscle relaxation, and vasodila…
Nitric oxide in the pathogenesis of vascular disease
2000
Nitric oxide (NO) is synthesized by at least three distinct isoforms of NO synthase (NOS). Their substrate and cofactor requirements are very similar. All three isoforms have some implications, physiological or pathophysiological, in the cardiovascular system. The endothelial NOS III is physiologically important for vascular homeostasis, keeping the vasculature dilated, protecting the intima from platelet aggregates and leukocyte adhesion, and preventing smooth muscle proliferation. Central and peripheral neuronal NOS I may also contribute to blood pressure regulation. Vascular disease associated with hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, and hypertension is characterized by endothelial dysfunct…
Reconstruction of Nasal Alar Defects with Freestyle Facial Artery Perforator Flaps
2014
In 2009, we have described the use of freestyle facial artery perforator flaps for one-stage nose reconstruction. Since then, several articles have reported the use of facial artery perforator flaps for nose reconstruction. The purpose of this article is to provide an update of the published technique after 10 years of experience. Since 2004, 21 patients have been treated with a freestyle facial artery perforator flap for one-stage reconstruction of the nasal ala. The flaps were 16 propellers, 4 V-Y, and 1 island transposition. A single venous congestion leading to a minor flap tip necrosis and a wound dehiscence was observed. All other flaps healed uneventfully. The V-Y design and multiple…
Clarithromycin in the Management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis: Preliminary Results of a Possible Its New Use
2018
The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of prolonged therapy with low-dose clarithromycin in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps (CRSwP) after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). A total of 10 patients with CRSwP were identified and subjected to bilateral ESS. In post-operative patients they were treated with nasal wash with saline solution and steroid sprays (beclomethasone). During follow-up, after 30–40 days after the operation (M = 35.4 SD = +4.33), patients reported a worsening of symptoms with onset of nasal obstruction; reduction/loss of smell; headache; onset of viscous secretions and therefore all patients continued therapy with saline nasal irrigation…
Morfoloģiskās iezīmes zīmolos
2016
Šajā pētījumā tiek aplūkotas morfoloģiskās “iezīmes” un to lietojums zīmolu nosaukumos.
Music-Related Nostalgic Experiences of Young Migrants
2013
Music is a powerful means for constructing identity – both formulating and remembering who one is – and migration can be seen as a particular situation creating challenges for this sense of identity. This qualitative study focused on investigating music-related nostalgic experiences of young migrants. The aim of the study was to identify features characteristic to music-related nostalgia particularly in relation to the experience of migration. Ten university students (Iranians currently living in migration) participated in the study. Data was collected through spoken interviews with an additional short questionnaire and a task to listen to self-selected nostalgic music. The interviews focus…
