The obesity hormone leptin has been implicated in breast cancer development. Breast cancer cells express the leptin receptor and are able to synthesize leptin in response to obesity-related stimuli. Furthermore, leptin is a positive regulator of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and high levels of both proteins are associated with worse prognosis in breast cancer patients. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) ligands are therapeutic agents used in patient with Type 2 diabetes and obesity which have recently been studied for their potential anti-tumor effect. Abstract Introduction The adaptogens modulate expression of genes playing key roles in development of aging-related disorders, which are considered as low-grade systemic inflammatory conditions characterized by an imbalance between pro-and anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. Pur essendo coeve, le biografie intellettuali di Antonio Rosmini e Alexis de Tocqueville non mostrano piena reciprocità di espliciti richiami bibliografici intercorsi tra i due. Il confronto diretto, non l’unico ma senz’altro il più approfondito, è stato operato da Rosmini limitatamente al libro della Democrazia in America pubblicato nel 1835. Il filosofo di Rovereto lo pone in risalto nella definizione di molti argomenti trattati nella Filosofia della politica del 1839 e, in seguito, lo riprende occasionalmente in altri suoi studi. Cigarette smoke extracts (CSE) may play a significant role in diseases of the upper airway including chronic rhinosinusitis. Even short term exposure of cigarette smoke has adverse effects on mitochondrial functions and redox homeostasis in tissues which may progress to further complications associated with chronic smoking. Cigarette smoke alters toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression and activation in bronchial epithelial cells. Carbocysteine is an anti-oxidant and mucolytic agent. The effects of carbocysteine on CSE induced oxidative stress and on associated innate immune and inflammatory responses in nasal epithelial cells are largely unknown.
